Day Eighteen - Snooze

I couldn’t help but hit the snooze button on my alarm clock this morning. After my late night of reading, all I wanted to do was sleep in. And no one chose to wake me from my slumber.

When I finally got my day started and moved about with my regular chores with Mrs Thompson, I was bothered by how quiet she was being.

Normally she would have endless updates for me about my grandchildren and how they were doing. But instead, she stayed quiet and mostly watched me.

In fact, no one has said a word to me all day. And with my sleeping in, I missed saying goodbye to Teddy.

As I’m folding up a bedsheet, I hear a whisper from behind me. Instinctively, I turn around.

And there, I see Mary and Mrs Thompson both looking at me like they have just finished a round of giggling.

I release a sigh. “Okay, what do you want to ask me?”

“Nothing important.” Mrs Thompson says and looks away from me.

“Yes, nothing important.” Mary says too.

When they make eye contact with each other, they both burst into a fit of giggles.

Knowing Mrs Thompson, Teddy and I must have been a source of gossip for her last night.

I grab my basket of laundry and head out of the room.

“Well, when you’re ready to ask me about it. I’d be more than happy to share.”

They both follow me out of the room asking me question after question about what happened last night. I didn’t think there was much to say, but recounting it to them had them swooning.
