Day Twenty One - Slingshot
Teddy has invited me up to Gale’s property this afternoon to show me all the work that him and the others have accomplished. Gale and her partner, Beth, graciously join us on the tour. They’ve done an amazing job in such a short amount of time: rebuilding and building new cabins and other fixtures on the property. Seeing how far they’ve come with the progress is a reminder of how little time I may have left with Teddy.
Once we finish the tour, Gale is quick to say that her and Beth are going to be heading home and that Teddy and I are free to stay as long as we’d like. She gives me a look like she knows that I’ve been dying to have a moment alone with Teddy.
And so we wander off, hand in hand, away from the cabins and into a clearing in the woods.
The moment we are finally far enough to be alone together, away from watching eyes, I fling myself towards Teddy. Like a small pebble sent flying in a slingshot, I’m flung straight into Teddy’s arms, our lips colliding ever so softly together.
It’s been a long time since I’ve been kissed. A sensation I haven’t thought of often, but now that I’m feeling it again, I’ll miss it once it’s over.
Teddy holds me, his arms completely wrapped around me. His lips are soft and gentle against mine.
And before I know it, we break apart. My lips already missing his.
We’re both grinning at each other, unable to contain our glee.
“Have you been waiting a while to do that?” He asks me.
“Yes, I’ve been waiting for a moment when we’d be completely alone, no one watching.”
He strokes my hair and softly touches my cheek, “Well, I hope we’re away from the others more often then.”
I sigh and he places another quick kiss on my lips.
“As much as I like this alone time, I really wanted to give you something today.” He says and reaches into his jacket to bring out a piece of wood.
He hands it to me, and I rotate in my hands until I see my name, carefully inscribed on the surface.
“It’s my name,” I say, and let my fingers trace around the “Evie”. There are also sprigs of lavender and rosemary carved into the surface.
“And that’s not all.” Teddy says and reaches into his pocket to pull out a small piece of wood.
“It says Lavender. Oh, Teddy!” I say and fling myself at him again, this time wrapping my arms around his neck, holding him close. “Thank you.” I whisper into his neck.
He laughs, “I figured if you want people to call you Evie, that’s what it should say on your name tag. And people, ghosts or other, should know who Lavender is too.”
“Yes, they’re perfect.” I say, releasing him and I continue to look at the name tags. They’re a perfect pair.
He grabs my hand and gives it a squeeze. “Shall we continue on our walk?”
I nod and we continue to walk out of the clearing, enjoying our time alone together.
